6 Sneaky Ways to Exercise Without Noticing It

So you want to start exercising more, it's just not practical to make it to the gym all the time. Life can be like that. But don’t worry! I can tell you from experience you can have some of the best training sessions ever outside the gym and slim down just as easily. Of course there are at home exercises, programs, and apps you can use, but suppose you just don’t have a dedicated block of time for fitness? Well, here are some tips to sneak in exercise without even noticing it (text below video):

  • Walk or run while you talk. Depending on your fitness level and athletic experience if the weather permits, walking or running is a near perfect way to burn fat and it's absolutely free. You can absolutely walk around your neighborhood or office building while you make phone calls -- either for work if you don’t need to be at a desk, or just to catch up with friends and make plans. If you have a like-minded friend, you can jog while you chat in person. This calorie burning will directly target your fat stores for energy. Try it for a few weeks and you'll see it works about 100 times better than any fat-burning supplement you could ever buy. Make a choice between walking six days a week or running three or four. Maybe even join runs to support your favorite charity.

  • Need help getting out to walk, but scheduling time with friends is difficult? Get yourself a pet dog or borrow a friend or neighbor’s dog. Daily, or even twice or three times daily walks are great for fitness levels and a dog is almost always willing to go with you.

  • Avoid sitting down for long periods of time, as it leads to neck and back pain. If your job involves a lot of sitting down, help yourself by using the stairs instead of the lift or escalator wherever possible, going to your colleagues' desks instead of sending them emails and standing up while on the phone.

  • Park your car a few blocks from your destination – whether you are going to the office or the grocery store. This will also save you money on gasoline.

  • Play with the kids in your life more. Have you ever noticed how much energy children (and particularly small children) have? Throw balls, play tag and hide and seek, or just chuck a frisbee around. It all counts towards a daily activity goal.

  • Wash your car yourself – instead of taking it to a car wash station. Regular bouts of housework, washing and cleaning floors, dusting and polishing, changing beds and scrubbing shelves use way more calories than sitting in front of the TV. If you simply have to catch up on your latest shows, stand instead of sit! Do some squats or lunges or gently work your core on a yoga ball while you watch.
